What Michele Obama said about American writer Maya Angelou on her 95th posthumous birthday

Former American first lady and author Michele Obama has taken to Facebook to celebrate the late American writer and author of the bestselling novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Dr. Maya Angelou.
Obama celebrated Angelou on Tuesday 4 April, 2023, the day she (Angelou) would have been 96. Angelou, the multiple award-winning writer and civil rights activist who is also famous for crafting the feminist poem I Rise, died on 14 May 2014 at 86.
Obama wrote: “Dr. Maya Angelou was one of my heroes. A woman of many talents, her greatest gift was the ability to see people. Sometimes in ways no one else had. She understood beauty and pain and rage and hope in an intimate way—and taught us to carry that weight with our heads held high.
“Today, on what would have been her 95th birthday, let’s honor her memory by striving to embody the wisdom, generosity, and love she showed the world every day.”
