An appeal panel raised by the All Progressives Congress over the controversial Ondo governorship primary is set to submit its report this week.
The chairman of the three-member committee, Mrs. Helen Bendega, said this in a telephone interview, in Abuja, on Tuesday.
She explained that the committee was no longer receiving petitions but did not say how many petitions had so far been received.
In response to a question on whether the committee was still receiving petitions, she said, “We have concluded that.”
In response to another question as to when the committee’s report would be ready, the chairman said, “We should be through by the end of the week.”
It will be recalled that some APC leaders from Ondo State had in a petition sent to the appeal committee called for the cancellation of the primary.
They also called for the conduct of a fresh one.
Signatories to the petition included the Chairman of the APC in Ondo-Central senatorial district, Mr. Adegboyega Adedipe; his counterpart from Ondo-East senatorial district, Mr. Akintunde Samuel; and that of Ondo-West senatorial district, Mr. Adeola Ademulegun.
The petitioners had alleged that the delegates’ list was manipulated in favour of one of the candidates.
The petition partly read, “A strange delegate list was introduced on the night of the election after everybody had gone to sleep only for us to wake up in the morning of the election to see a massively corrupted delegates’ list.”
