Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala reveals how she was almost killed fighting corruption under Jonathan government

The Former minister of finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has revealed how she was almost killed fighting corruption serving under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. Okonjo Iweala said some oil importers and marketers wanted to kill her.

The former Minister in her book titled ‘Fighting Corruption is Dangerous: The Story Behind the Headlines.’ revealed that fighting corruption in Nigeria is very dangerous especially under the last administration. She however advised those who want to fight corruption in Nigeria to equip themselves with better security.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala also narrated how her 83 years old mother was kidnapped and almost killed if not the intervention of the government at that time.

She revealed that when she wanted to institutionalize fighting corruption in the country under the administration of Jonathan. The government always frustrated all the plans to fight corruption even the TSA we established during the regime did not start which currently implementing now.

The oil importers and marketers seek to take my life. The meeting was held by a group of oil importers and marketers to whom the Federal Government ‘owed money’. It was held in the house of the chair and owner of one of the oil marketing companies.

‘’They were angry I was withholding the subsidy payments that they thought were owed them for their refined petroleum imports

The minister however concluded that fighting corruption is dangerous but there is hope, showing that victories are possible in the fight against corruption..
