Lagos CP Owohunwa visits Okada rider assaulted by policemen

By Moses Omorogieva
Lagos Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa on Thursday visited a commercial motorcyclist who was seen being assaulted by police operatives until blood gushed from his head at Abule-Egba area of the State
A viral video showed police operatives hitting the motorcyclist with sticks in an attempt to seize his motorcycle around Ogundele Street, in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos.
The motorcyclist resisted the attempt by the police operatives to take his motorcycle away, but he was overpowered by the policemen in the incident which took place on Wednesday.
The police operatives fled the scene after inflicting the motorcyclist with the injury. One of them fled in a commercial tricycle.
However, during his visit family members of the motorcyclist and leadership of his community at Abattoir Market, Agege, Owohunwa condemned the excessive use of force by the policemen in enforcing existing ban on use of commercial motorcycles in some parts of Lagos State.

He assured members of the public that disciplinary measures already initiated against the men would be brought to a logical conclusion and the outcome made public.
“The Command will continue to ensure that the rule of law is upheld while not relenting in enforcing the laws of the land,’’ he said.
The Police Commissioner was received by family members of the motorcyclist and leadership of his community at Agege.
They commended the commissioner of police over the visit.
