Nigerians have read the exclusive story published by Premium Times titled ‘Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun skips NYSC, forges certificate’ a story sponsored by some looters and the former ruling party the People Democratic Party PDP to scandalize the Honorable Minister of Finance Mrs Kemi Adeosun over NYSC certificate forgery.
Nigerians had reacted differently to Mrs Adeosun NYSC certificate scandal while some people want the Minister to resign others felt it was just another blackmail to tarnish Mrs Kemi Adeosun image.
To this point, the Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun is yet to respond to the allegation but some top members of Buhari’s cabinet have alleged that Premium Times was bribed by some looters and some top member of People Democratic Party. Mystatenews.com also made some quick investigation on the matter, it is revealed that the story is practical sponsored to discredit Mrs Adeosun who has performanced wonderfully well on the affair of Minister of Finance in Nigeria.
The story was published by a Premium Times reporter simply identified as Abdulaziz Abdulaziz. Searching through his profile we did not see more about him. He is/was deputy Editor ( Special Editor) and some of his profile we obtained by LinkedIn is available here.
Back to the Kemi Adeosun NYSC certificate scandal, Premium Times reported that Kemi Adeosun did not participate in the mandatory one-year national youth service scheme. Instead, she forged an exemption certificate many years after graduation. The paper went further to read that the Fake NYSC certificate was signed by former director-general of the corps Yusuf Bomoi dated September 9, 2009 which was believed to have retired before the signed date. Yusuf Bomoi died on September 2017 not alive to testify.
Premium Times listed some consequences if the Minister of Finance find guilty, Some of it are listed below:
- Eligible Nigerians who skipped the service are liable to be sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and/or N2,000 fine, according to Section 13 of the NYSC law.
- Section 13 (3) of the law also prescribes three-year jail term or option of N5,000 fine for anyone who contravenes provision of the law as Mrs Adeosun has done.
- Subsection 4 of the same section also criminalises giving false information or illegally obtaining the agency’s certificate. It provides for up to three-year jail term for such offenders.
Now if Mrs Kemi Adeosun is eventually guilty as charged she will opt for the option of fine.
How looters, PDP bribed Premium Times to scandalize Kemi Adeosun
We believe the whole scandal is all about 2019 general election. Kemi Adeosun was a commissional of Finance in Ogun State nobody talked about her NYSC certificate. When she was nominated by President Buhari in 2015 nobody talked talked about her NYSC certificate. She scaled through the screening of the National Assembly they did found necessary to talk about her forgery NYSC certificate. She has spent more that three years as the Minister of Finance in Nigeria and performed beyond their expectation blocking all the loopholes against the looters. Now she has forged NYSC certificate when the general election is less than a year.
All the scandals are paid sponsored article. Nigerians should disregard all the distraction and judge her base on her track record and performances.
Let use a common sense although don’t common among some Nigerians.
Kemi Adeosun was not born here in Nigeria. She did not attend any school here in Nigeria. If you should know she has working in the UK before coming to Nigeria. The purposed of NYSC is to gain a working experience. She was never know anything about giving and taking bribe when she arrived Nigeria. If she truly forged NYSC certificate some people who have assisted her and told her that there is way out then.
According to Wikipedia, “Kemi was born in 1967 in London, England to Nigerian parents from Ogun State. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of East London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Financial Management from the University of London. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1994.”
In term of working experience, the wikipedia listed some companies and organisations she worked with while in UK. “She commenced her career as an accounting assistant at British Telecom, London, from 1989 till 1990, after which she moved to Goodman Jones, London, working as a Senior audit officer from 1990 till 1993. She became Manager of Internal Audit at London Underground, London and Prism Consulting from 1994 till 2000 before joining PricewaterhouseCoopers, London as Senior Manager from 2000 till 2002. In 2002, Kemi became financial controller at Chapel Hill Denham Management and subsequently, Managing Director in 2010. After working with Quo Vadis Partnership as Managing Director in 2010 and 2011, she was appointed the Commissioner of Finance in Ogun State, from 2011 till 2015. Since November 2015, she has been the Finance Minister of Nigeria.”
Now many people are quick to judge and sentence her even before the court pronounce her guilty. She has performed very well as a Finance Minister within the pace of three years. She has given the corrupt elements in her ministry and also in NNPC a run for their money. With many ministries and agencies giving accountability and remit appropriately what is due for the government. Some people definitely are not happy about this?
NYSC certificate or not Kemi Adeosun is a hero. Nigerians should be wise not to dance to the tune of the scandal.
Kemi Adeosun revealed on her twitter handle and wrote:
We have introduced very novel and bold reforms that have significantly curtailed wastages in governance, and reduced fiscal leakages, promoted transparency in the payment process, reformed the procurement process, and ensured the sanitisation of the public-sector payroll system.

In attempt for the looters and PDP to stop the good work this young woman is doing. They have deplored a means to stop good work of sanitizing the finance ministry and blocking the loopholes to curtail wastages in governance.
The People Democratic party was the first to respond after the report was published. The party quickly called for the Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun resignation.
Nigerians attack one another in a different views about the matter. Canning through the comments on the post in Premium Times we obtained the following:
Her exemption letter was tagged forged because the DG that signed her exemption letter in September had left office in January.
How is it possible that a retired DG as at January signed her certificate by September.

NYSC does not force Nigerians abroad who fall within service age to come home for national service.
Whenever anyone comes back & if within the age, they serve & if not, they obtain exemption. The duration of stay abroad in passport is all she needs. She has no reason to forge.

I want to rest my case here. Nigeria so value the paper so called certificate rather than progress and development. The one that has PHD certificate what did he do with it. Please leave Kemi Adeosun alone to continue her excellent work.
