Safiya Idris and Farida Ka’oje, the last two girls from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, in Kebbi State, who were kidnapped by bandits two years ago, have been released.

Malam Salim Kaoje, chairman of the parents of the abducted girls forum, confirmed to newsmen on Thursday evening.

According to Kaoje, they were still in the jungle, trying to make their way to the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, where they would be handed over to the state authorities.

This comes more than two years after the bandits invaded the school, and abducted ninety-six students, 8 adults/staff. It happened on the 17th of June, 2021.

After the kidnap, the bandits demanded N100 million in ransom. It was paid and the girls were freed to their parents in batches.

Despite large sum of money given as ransom and prisoner swaps at various times, 11 of them were imprisoned for nearly a year and a half. The two that were discharged yesterday were the final victims.
