The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC freezes the Benue State Government account in an attempt to frustrate the Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom who recently defected to People Democratic Party.
The EFCC said to have obtained the valid court order which was circulated to all the affected banks to freeze the State government bank account. The affected banks are Fidelity Bank, First Bank and GTB.
The Commission is investigating the Benue state government’s security vote which was alleged to have diverted to a personal use.
Expressing frustration about the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Terver Akase said the agenda to cripple the state.
“Yes, it is part of the evil agenda to cripple the state. It is only in Benue that the EFCC is probing the security vote of the governor,” he said.
In the same view, One of the top official of the Benue State government said,
“The order would effected the payment of salaries and all of the state government’s financial obligations because these are accounts from where salaries and other Sunday payments are paid.”
“We also gathered that the commission secured a valid court order which was presented to all the affected banks for necessary action but it is clearly a witch-hunt because Governor Ortom defected from the APC, that is Nigerian democracy for you.”
