Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed the Blues are set to announce the arrival of Edouard Mendy today. The goalkeeper completed a medical on Wednesday.
The Blues agreed to pay a reported £22million to Rennes for their player. Lampard is set to finally get his replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who failed to impress at Stamford Bridge.
Arrizabalaga is now expected to be offered out as Chelsea look to recoup some of the £72m they spent on him, but it seems he could be kept around as a backup to Mendy. The 27-year-old only took his medical on Wednesday, with Lampard confirming after the 6-0 win over Barnsley that he was yet to speak with his new recruit.
He said: “With Mendy, the medical, I think it’s done, but I want to be a bit careful and don’t want to give absolute confirmation until I see him, possibly over the next 24 hours. But it seems like it’s on the verge of being done.”
