–ASUU embarks on Nationwide indefinite strike
-The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has started Nationwide indefinite strike today after the deliberation that lasted three days.
The lecturers union held its meeting at the University of Abuja from Friday and has directed all her members against going to teach or involving themselves in any academic activity.

In a document titled: “Strike Bulletin No.1”, which was signed and issued by Ogunyemi, ASUU said the strike action was to be a total, comprehensive and indefinite action whereby no form of academic activities including teaching, attendance of any meeting, conduct and supervision of any examination at any level, supervision of project or thesis at any level should take place at any of the nation’s universities.

UNILAG, UI, LASU, other ASSU branches vote for indefinite strike
The top most universities in Nigeria vote for the indefinite strike that start today. Universities like university of Lagos UNILAG, University of Ibadan and Lagos state university are top universities that insist on strike action.
According to SUN newspaper, Feelers from the NEC meeting indicate that several of the branches including the University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI) and Lagos State University (LASU) voted for an indefinite industrial action. One of ASUU’s zonal coordinators told our correspondent that his zone voted overwhelmingly for strike and that the outcome of the referendum conducted on Friday will be collated to enable the union take a position.
Why ASUU embark on Nationwide Indefinite strike
One may be wondering why ASUU begins Nationwide indefinite strike. it is because of some demand that Federal government refuse to be met since 2009.
Below are the highlights of some of the demand;
- Payment of fractions/non-payment of salaries;
- Non-payment of earned academic allowances,
- Non-release of operational license of NUPEMCO;
- Non implementation of the provisions of the 2014 pension reform act with respect to retired professors and their salaries,
- Removal of universities staff schools from funding by government and funds for the revitalisation of public universities
