Two political groups in Nigeria, a Yoruba organisation, Afenifere; the Ohanaeze Ndigbo; the Yoruba Council of Elders have thrown their weight for the candidate of the People Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku enjoys the support of the groups because of the promise to restructure Nigeria if elected as the President of Nigeria.
Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo disclosed that they will endorse Atiku for President. The groups also promise to do everything possible for Atiku to win the 2019 Presidential election.
For instance, the spokesman for the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Uche Achi-Okpaga, said Ohanaeze will support Atiku in the forthcoming presidential election because of his view in restructuring the country.
He knocked Buhari over the recent statement on restructuring. He said, “Buhari and other APC stalwarts were talking about restructuring ahead of the 2015 presidential election, the President became “completely ignorant and bereft of the tenets of restructuring” shortly after he was inaugurated as President”
In the same view, the Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council of Elders, Dr Kunle Olajide, said Afenifere will support Atiku over Buhari in 2019 General election.
Dr Kunle Olajide also disagrees with the President and his Vice over their view on restructuring. He said, “ruling APC could claim ignorance of what restructuring was about after their party had earlier set up a committee on the matter.”
