Eighteen persons were on Thursday reported dead in a ghastly motor accident along Benin-Ore express road in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The accident, according to sources involved two vehicles.
It was learnt that many passengers also injured and they were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
The state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Rotimi Adeleye who confirmed the incident, however, said four persons died in the accident.
Residents around the vicinity and other road users were said to have insisted that 18 persons died in the road crash, while others in the two vehicles sustained serious injuries.
The two ill-fated vehicles were said to be coming from the South East and heading to Lagos before the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses linked the carnage to wrong overtaking by one of the drivers of the vehicles on the bridge after Warri Park in Ore.
The two damaged vehicles were said to have been taken to FRSC office in Ore.
The FRSC commander said the accident was caused by high speed and wrong overtaking by the driver.
Adeleye cautioned driver against high speed and impatience while on the highway.
